The goal for the City's Environmental Programs is to provide reliable, cost effective environmental compliance, education, and enforcement services that help maintain a good quality of life for those who live, work, and play in Manhattan Beach.  Environmental Programs addresses many issues such as water conservation, air quality, energy conservation, storm water pollution prevention, waste and recycling, and public health.  If you have further questions regarding the City's Environmental Programs, please visit the Going Green website for more information, or contact us Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at (310) 802-5300. Water Conservation:
Water conservation is extremely important in Southern California's desert climate. So what does that mean for you and me? Well, it means that water is scarce - in fact we import almost all of our drinking water from the North (the State Water Project). We also rely on water from the Colorado River (Colorado River Aqueduct). Water is a precious resource that we must conserve responsibly. Learn more about the City's Water Conservation Ordinance and what you need to do to save water. Protecting our beaches and oceans is another important goal for the City of Manhattan Beach. Learn more about Storm Water Pollution Prevention and what you can do to make difference.

Air Quality:
Due in part to the prevailing winds that blow eastward, Manhattan Beach enjoys very good air quality, but that also means our pollution is pushed to the east. As such we believe we have a responsibility to the region to do our part in improving the region's air quality.  One of the ways we are doing this is through the use of alternative fuel vehicles.  15% of the City's fleet now operates on an alternative fuel such as compressed natural gas (CNG), electric power, and propane.   The City also sponsors an employee rideshare program that encourages city employees with incentives to carpool or use an alternative form of transportation to get to work.

For Rideshare Information call 1-800-COMMUTE.

Energy Conservation:

To meet these goals we will need the help of all of our community members -- our residents, businesses, and schools. We ask that you each do what you can to be energy efficient and mindful of how you use our natural resources. To assist you in your sustainability efforts the City will provide you with information and incentives to become energy efficient and use sustainable energy. Please visit o, and the our Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy site and Environmental Resources webpage, often to learn what you can do to live and be green.
